American Idol 8: The Afterthoughts by 09154137756

I have always been an avid follower of AI (and singing contests in general), having seen seasons starting from 3 (it has nothing to do with the fact that one {actually, two} of the finalists were Filipinas. Rather, it’s because that was the year we signed up for a cable subscription). And yet for some reason, I am not too enthusiastic about this season. The probable reason for this is the lack of any real competition within the show, compared to the previous season where everybody had their time to shine (hell, the first Beatles week was easily one of the best AI episodes ever). Sadly, I find this season way too monotonous and predictable.

Hidden Music in Windows Vista System Folder by 09154137756

I was searching for the Windows startup theme today because I want to use it as the startup tone for my mobile phone. I found the themes for various events but ultimately failed to find the actual tone. However, I did find eleven excellent WMA tracks, most of which were chillout and club songs.

If you want to hear the songs, go to C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-musicsamples… to get the songs.

Tracklist:

  • Aaron Goldberg - OAM’s Blues
  • Aisha Duo - Amanda
  • Aisha Duo - Despertar
  • Habib Koite and Bamada - Din Din Wo (Little Child)
  • Habib Koite and Bamada - I Ka Barra (Your Work)
  • Karsh Kale - Distance
  • Karsh Kale - One Step Beyond
  • Nicolaus Esterhazy Sinfon - Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55, ‘Eroica’ - Scherzo-allegro vivace
  • The Posies - I Guess You’re Right
  • The Posies - Love Comes
  • Luciana Souza; Romero Lubambo - Muita Bobeira

The tracks come with complete ID3 tags and they even come with their respective album art.

Go Open Source! by 09154137756

One of the major benefits of having an Internet connection is gaining access to a vast repository of files for everyday consumption. Media, computer programs and documents can be readily obtained through different means, such as straightforward downloading, P2P and torrent. However, in recent years, this has also brought up rampant illegal distribution of copyrighted materials. Just typing in the name of the program from your favorite search engine yields websites where you can download commercial software at absolutely no cost, but at the expense of leaving behind “Thank you for visiting our site” souvenirs that can compromise your security, causes instability in your system and fill your system with annoying crap and worthless junk. It is basically a matter of accepting more serious annoyances in exchange for a small piece of convenience.

How to convert MP3 to AMR by 09154137756

One of the programs included in the Nokia PC Suite is the Multimedia Player. (If you don’t have one, you can download an installer over the net. Here’s the direct dload address: http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/software/Nokia_6600_Multimediaplayer_1_1_en.exe. The program is freeware. Right click and “save target as…” to download)

To convert, simply open your target file (wav or MP3), and then go to File>Save as… Select either AMR or MP3, and then select your size limit (MMS size, 200KB, 300KB or none). Click save and that’s it.

Internet Goodies: AudioScrobbler - Friendster for Music Lovers by 09154137756

[URL: Last.fm] Simply create an account then download the plugins for your music player (Media Player, Winamp or iTunes). Audioscrobbler automatically picks up the tracks you play on your PC and then effectively broadcast it via your own last.fm site. In addition, the site will also search for users with musical preferences similar to yours. Be warned, though, you might gawk at what the others are listening on theirs. The site also offers enhancements for your personal site.
